CampusDesk publishes school news, examination updates, and job opportunity information for Nigerian students and job seekers. This policy explains what data we collect from visitors and how it is used.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it. The Gravatar service’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the site can download and extract location data from any images published on it.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is for your convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter these details when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.
If you visit our login page (for site administrators/contributors), a temporary cookie is set to check whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we also set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen option cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out removes your login cookies.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. It contains no personal data — it simply stores the post ID of the article you just edited, and expires after one day.
Embedded Content From Other Websites
Articles on CampusDesk may include embedded content (for example, videos or images from other sources). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited that website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content — including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who We Share Your Data With
If you request a password reset (for registered accounts), your IP address is included in the reset email.
We do not sell or share visitors’ personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
How Long We Retain Your Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognize and automatically approve any follow-up comments, instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For any users who register on our website, we also store the personal information provided in their user profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where Your Data Is Sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Advertising
CampusDesk does not currently run paid advertising, but the site may display ads or sponsored content in the future. If this changes, this policy will be updated to reflect how any advertising partners handle data (such as cookies used for ad targeting).
